You must not know these things about international logistics transshipment ports

  Transit port, also known as "transit port", refers to the port of departure to the port of destination, through the third port in the journey, by the means of transport to dock, load and unload cargo, supply and other operations, and then by the means of transport to the port of destination, that is, the transit port。There are both one-time transhipment by shipping companies and consignors who transfer orders for duty-free reasons。

  1.Transit port situation

  The transit port is usually the basic port, so the ships that call on the transit port are usually large ships on the main international shipping routes, and long journeys between ports in the region。

  2.Port of discharge/Place of delivery = Port of transit/Port of destination?

  If only by sea, the port of discharge is the port of transit and the place of delivery is the port of destination。When booking the space, generally only need to indicate the place of delivery, whether to transfer, or to which transfer station, are determined by the shipping company。

  For multimodal transport, the port of discharge shall be the port of destination and the place of delivery shall be the port of destination。The port of discharge must be specified when booking, as different ports of discharge will incur different transport charges。

  3.The benefits of transit ports

  (I) Tax exemption;

  That's what staging means。The establishment of a transit port as a free trade port can achieve tariff reduction。For example, Hong Kong is a free trade port, if the goods transferred to Hong Kong, non-state special provisions of the goods, basically can achieve duty-free export, and even can get tax rebates。

  (ii) hold cargo。

  This refers to shipping company transshipment。In international trade, there are many factors that cause the goods to be unable to advance halfway and need to be returned to their original place。The shipper may apply to the shipping company for detention before arriving at the transit port。The goods will not be shipped to the port of destination until the trade problem is settled。It is usually easier to handle than a ship that sails directly。But it's not cheap。

  4.Transit port number

  A ship can be attached to more than one port, so the ship in the same ship number head record port code, that is, the subsequent transfer port code also has many, if the shipment is placed at will, the code does not match, it will lead to the container can not enter the port。If it corresponds to the vessel's location but is not the true port of transit, even if the vessel enters the port, it will be discharged to the wrong port。If the container is properly adjusted before shipping, it may also leave the port incorrectly。Transshipment costs are high and there may be heavy fines to pay。

  5.About transhipment clause

  In the international transport of goods, due to geographical or political economic reasons, goods need to be transferred in certain ports or other places。Restrictions on transit ports are required when booking shipping space。But in the end it is up to the shipping company to accept the transhipment。

  If accepted, the terms of the port of transit are clear, usually with a note after the port of destination, usually by "VIA" or "W/T(withransshipmentat..., during transit) connection。For example, the following terms:

  PortofLoading port: ShanghaiChat, Shanghai, China。

  Destination port: LondonUKW/THHHKation, UK

  As for the transit port, we can not directly regard it as the port of destination, so as to avoid transport errors and unnecessary losses。As the transit port is only a temporary port for transshipment of goods, it is not the final destination of the goods。
